Grassroots: Foreword
PLCAA has long been known as "the voice of the industry." From participating in lawn care hearings in the early 1990s to reaching millions with PLCAA's benefits of turf messages, the Association continues to be a key resource and supporter of the green industry.
But this "voice" is only as strong as the individuals involved. You, the professional, must take an active role in legislative, regulatory and media-related activities—at the national and local level—in order for this voice to continue to be heard. Grassroots involvement is a necessity if the industry is to survive as it exists today.
This Grassroots Guide by Edward A. Grefe explains how you can be an active player in ensuring the success of your business and industry. Study its contents and learn how to be a part of "the voice of the industry."
While this manual talks about local grassroots activities and uses the water issue as an example, the important techniques described throughout can be used for other situations. A note to Canadian lawn care companies--when the manual refers to ordinances, substitute the word bylaws.
The PLCAA office provides many tools for your grassroots activities. Each year, the Association sponsors Legislative Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C., and works with regional associations, companies and individuals in fighting for fair and balanced laws and regulations. PLCAA also offers many consumer publications on the benefits of turf.
We're your year-round resource—just call the PLCAA office for assistance and advice at (800) 458-3466. Good luck in your grassroots efforts!
